The vines of the estate are planted in about 6 hectares, on the hills underneath the village of Casale Maritimo at about 200 metres above sea level.
The land where the vines are located is composed of sedimentary clays of the Pliocene era.
It is chalky, poor in nitrogen and organic substances but rich in potassium, magnesium and absorbable calcium.
The vineyards are standing at south, south-east, and southwest with variable sloping. We are cultivating vines, planted partially in 1997 and 1998, like Merlot in the Nocera area of about 1,5 hectares, Cabernet Sauvignon in the Olmata area (1,3 ha) and Sangiovese in the Principe Guerriero area of about 2,2 hectares. A further hectare at Fonte Picchi area is cultivated with Sangiovese together with 1/2 hectare of Vermentino. The plant density per hectare range from 5600 to 6300.
Training methods are Guyot training and the production is limited to 50/70 hundred kilos per hectare. All the work in the vineyards such as winter pruning, green pruning, clusters selection and harvest is done manually to guarantee the whole operation and allow a fine balance between seeking only quality and the productivity of the grapes.
To ensure our wines are totally in harmony with nature and the characteristics of the “terroir”, avoiding any risk of contamination, since 2009 the cultivation of the vineyard is in according to the principles of the organic agricolture. We are using only organic fertilizers and we are not using synthesis molecules for the treatment sprays.
